In 1992, just after graduating from high school Amanda Bossard started her education in marine biology at Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage,AK. Bossard started her career as a commercial seafood worker in 1999. She started working on the F/V Sunset which was a 65' halibut schooner and was later converted into a salmon tender in the name of Murat Aritan, who worked as a commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard married Aritan in 1999. The pair have come together to defend their businesses. Both of them are in favour of conserving resources as well as maximising profits. Otolith was created at the time of Philadelphia through Bella Bossard who is now the mother of two children aged 3 and 1, Bossard. The name Otolith serves as a fond reminder of Bossard's intimate knowledge about fish biology and her husband's extensive connections in the seafood business. They are often separated for up to 5 months each time they strive to achieve sustainable and financial goals that reflect their commitment and independence wherever they live. Bossard with her son Andre 10, and Isabella 12 each year return to Southeast Alaska as deckhands to harvest wild salmon during summer. In the course of two months, Bossard and her daughter Isabella will use hooks and lines to hunt for the salmon they want to catch. Aritan will then sell their fish for processing locally.
